To quote the Breed Standard – “All Solid colours except white are acceptable. Frequently shaded on tail and back of thighs with lighter colour.” This is self explanitary: consequently, a Shar Pei with more than one coat colour should be described as “Non Standard”. Do not be confused by the shading, which is normal and perfectly acceptable, and will be found in all colours, including black and cream, except Mahogany Red, which tend to be self coloured. Dilutes are possible in all colours, exhibiting amber coloured eyes, lavender tongues and self coloured points and again, are perfectly exceptable. They should have NO black pigment anywhere.
